Is Buying Kratom in Bulk Cheaper, and Does It Stay Fresh?
IS BUYING KRATOM IN BULK CHEAPER, AND DOES IT STAY FRESH?
Yes, buying kratom in bulk is cheaper. At Super Speciosa, a 1 kg bag of kratom powder works out to $0.14 per gram, 30% less than a 100 g bag at $0.20 per gram. A 5 kg bag cuts the price in half. And bulk kratom stays fresh when it’s sealed and kept cool, dark and dry; our own testing supports a two-year shelf life. The catch is buying only what you’ll use in that window.
Key takeaways:
- Our powder drops from $0.20/g (100 g) to $0.14/g (1 kg) to about $0.10/g (5 kg).
- The kilo on autoship costs $89.99, or $0.09/g, which beats the one-time 5 kg price per gram.
- Bulk capsules cost about 71% more per gram than bulk powder.
- A kilo holds about 416 servings at our 2.4 g label serving.
- Portion a big bag into smaller airtight jars so the main supply stays sealed.
- Skip bulk if you’re new to kratom or haven’t tried the strain yet.
Is it cheaper to buy kratom in bulk?
It is, and the savings grow with every size step. Here’s the price ladder for our core powders (Maeng Da, Bali, Borneo, Malay and Thai all share it):

The number most people miss is in the kilo row. Our $89 kratom powder kilo deal applies when you choose autoship, bringing a kilo to $89.99. That’s cheaper per gram than buying 5 kg outright, without committing to five years of powder. You can adjust or cancel deliveries, and every option is listed on our kratom deals page.
Cheap and good value aren’t the same thing, though. Our take on cheap kratom vs good value explains why a rock-bottom price per gram can hide a weak or untested batch. It’s also why we’d steer you away from buying bulk kratom on Amazon or at a gas station.
Bulk powder vs bulk capsules
Capsules get cheaper in bulk too, but they never catch up to powder.

How long does a kilo of kratom last?
Our powder label lists a 2.4 g serving and a limit of two servings in 24 hours. Here’s what that means for each bag size. This is arithmetic, not a suggestion to use kratom daily.

Compare that with the two-year shelf life from our own testing. A kilo fits comfortably inside it. A 5 kg bag only makes sense for a household that shares it or for someone who already knows their routine, and even then, the last kilo will be older than the first. Measuring matters here, since teaspoons vary; see our grams per teaspoon guide and our serving size guide, plus how much kratom powder to take if you’re still finding your amount.
Does bulk kratom stay fresh?
It does, if you store it right. Kratom is dried leaf, and its main alkaloid holds up reasonably well. In a 2020 lab study, mitragynine showed no significant loss in solution at temperatures up to 40°C (104°F), though the researchers found that kratom’s alkaloids as a group break down with heat and acidity. That test ran in liquid for hours, not in a bag on a shelf, so treat it as a clue rather than a shelf-life figure.
Freshness also starts before the bag reaches you. A University of Florida team found that low drying temperatures preserved mitragynine and other alkaloids during processing. The bigger enemy at home is moisture. Molds can grow at a water activity as low as about 0.65, so humidity and condensation matter more than time. Ground botanicals also lose quality faster than whole leaves, per Oregon State University Extension, which is why a powder needs more storage discipline than loose leaf.
Our full breakdown of how long kratom stays fresh covers the signs of an old batch.
How to store a kilo of kratom
- Split the bag on day one into four or five smaller airtight jars.
- Keep one jar in use and leave the rest sealed.
- Choose opaque glass or foil-lined bags, and add a food-safe silica packet.
- Store the jars somewhere cool, dark and dry, away from the stove and the bathroom.
- Label each jar with the batch number and the date you opened the bag.
- Use a dry scoop every time.
- Skip the freezer. Condensation from temperature swings adds moisture.
More detail is in our guide to the best ways to store kratom.
Benefits of buying kratom in bulk
- Lower cost per gram, up to 50% off one-time or 55% off with the autoship kilo.
- One batch for the whole supply, so the strength stays the same from the first serving to the last.
- One lab report to check, instead of a new one every few weeks.
- Fewer orders and less packaging.
When bulk isn’t worth it
- You’re new to kratom. Start with a sampler like our Powder Flight (five 20 g pouches for $19) first.
- You haven’t tried the strain. A kilo you don’t like isn’t a deal. Browse Maeng Da strains, red kratom strains, white kratom strains or green vein strains before committing.
- You use kratom occasionally. If a kilo would outlast two years, a 250 g bag costs more per gram and less overall.
- You’re watching tolerance. Some people rotate strains instead of sticking with one for a year; our kratom tolerance guide explains why. A variety bundle handles that.
What to check before you buy kratom in bulk
A bad batch costs more when it’s 1 kg instead of 100 g. The track record for untested product isn’t great. An FDA and CDC investigation traced a 2018 Salmonella outbreak to kratom that sickened 199 people in 41 states, and 55% of the product samples FDA collected tested positive. FDA testing of 30 kratom products also found lead and nickel at concerning levels. And a Chicago-area study found mitragynine ranging from 3.9 to 62.1 mg per gram across products, a 16-fold spread.
Before you buy a kilo, check for:
- A mitragynine grade on the label. Ours are 1.0%+ for Bali, Borneo, Malay and Thai, and 1.3%+ for Maeng Da. Here’s what mitragynine is.
- A batch lab report covering alkaloids, heavy metals and microbes. Scan the QR code on the bag you receive; here’s how our batch lab results work.
- A vendor that makes its own product. See how our kratom is made and our checklist for how to vet a kratom vendor.
The FDA’s kratom page notes that the agency has warned about contaminated kratom before, and there’s no federal quality standard for kratom. The batch report is your check.

Bulk kratom FAQ
Is it cheaper to buy kratom in bulk?
Yes. At Super Speciosa, kratom powder costs $0.20 per gram in a 100 g bag, $0.14 in a 1 kg bag and about $0.10 in a 5 kg bag. The kilo on autoship drops to $0.09 per gram. Most vendors discount larger sizes, so compare price per gram, not bag price.
How many servings are in a kilo of kratom?
About 416 servings at our 2.4 g label serving. The math is 1,000 g divided by 2.4 g. Your count will vary with your own serving size, so weigh servings on a kitchen scale rather than using a spoon.
Does bulk kratom go bad?
Kratom doesn’t spoil quickly, but it slowly loses quality with heat, light, air and moisture. Our own testing supports a two-year shelf life when it’s stored sealed, cool, dark and dry. Portion large bags into smaller jars so the main supply isn’t opened daily.
Should I freeze bulk kratom?
We don’t recommend it. Moving kratom in and out of the freezer creates condensation, and moisture is what lets mold grow. A sealed, opaque container in a cool, dry cupboard works better.
Are bulk capsules cheaper than bulk powder?
No. Capsules get cheaper in bulk, but a 1,000-count bottle still costs about $0.24 per gram of kratom, compared with $0.14 per gram for a kilo of powder. Capsules cost more because of the shell and the filling process.
What’s the difference between bulk and wholesale kratom?
Bulk kratom means larger sizes for personal use, like a kilo or 5 kg bag at retail. Wholesale kratom is sold to businesses for resale, usually with an account, larger minimums and business pricing.
Can I split a bulk order between strains?
Yes. Our Powder Strain Variety Bundle includes five 250 g bags of different strains at a bulk price, and our Maeng Da Powder Trio covers all three Maeng Da colors. Both are good ways to buy bulk before you’ve settled on one strain.
