Are Kratom Tablets as Effective as Kratom Capsules?

ARE KRATOM TABLETS AS EFFECTIVE AS KRATOM CAPSULES?

Are Kratom Tablets as Effective as Kratom Capsules?

Yes. Kratom tablets are as effective as kratom capsules when they deliver the same amount of mitragynine, and ours do. A serving of our Maeng Da tablets (8 tablets, 2.4 g of leaf) and a serving of our Maeng Da capsules (5 capsules, 2.5 g of leaf) both provide about 31 mg of mitragynine from the same 1.3%+ leaf. The differences come down to how many you swallow, cost and personal preference.

Why effectiveness depends on mitragynine, not the format

Both formats hold plain kratom leaf. What you feel tracks the amount of alkaloids, mainly mitragynine, that you take. In a 2026 controlled study of leaf capsules, effects scaled with the amount taken, which points to the serving size as the variable that matters. So compare the mitragynine per serving on the label, not the shape of the pill.

That’s also why a tablet from one brand isn’t automatically equal to a capsule from another. Leaf grade varies. Ours is printed on every label: 1.0%+ for Bali, Malay, Thai and Borneo, 1.3%+ for Maeng Da, and 1.5%+ for Signature Reserve capsules.

Do kratom tablets or capsules kick in faster?

The difference is minutes at most. Imaging studies show gelatin capsules start breaking open in the stomach about 5 minutes after swallowing, with a range of 1 to 11 minutes, and a second study found an average of 7 minutes. Tablets can kick in a little faster as there is no gelatin shell to digest but can vary depending on how tightly a tablet is compressed affects how fast it breaks apart, according to a review of tablet disintegration.

Meanwhile, mitragynine reaches peak blood levels about 1 to 2 hours after swallowing kratom leaf. A few minutes of breakup time barely registers against that. Food in your stomach and your own metabolism matter more. For timing details, see how long kratom takes to kick in.

Which should you choose?

Pick tablets if:

  • You find large capsules hard to swallow. Our tablets are smaller.
  • You avoid gelatin or other animal products.
  • You like breaking a serving into smaller steps.

Pick capsules if:

  • You’d rather swallow 5 pills than 8.
  • You want no taste at all.
  • You want the widest strain selection, including Signature Reserve.

Not sure? Our tablet variety bundle and the Kratom Capsule Strain Flight let you try several strains in either format. Our guide to how many kratom capsules to take and our serving size guide help with amounts. Whichever you choose, the label limit is the same: no more than two servings in 24 hours, at least 12 hours apart.

Kratom tablets vs capsules FAQ

Are kratom tablets stronger than capsules?

Not per serving. Our 8-tablet and 5-capsule servings both deliver about 31 mg of mitragynine in the Maeng Da grade. A single capsule (500 mg) holds more leaf than a single tablet (300 mg), which is why the tablet serving uses more pieces.

Do kratom tablets have fillers?

Ours don’t. Each tablet is 300 mg of pressed kratom leaf powder with no binders, fillers or additives. Other brands may use binders or extract, so read the ingredient list.

Can you chew kratom tablets?

You can, but you’ll taste the leaf, which is bitter. Swallowing them whole with water is easier. If taste is the main issue, capsules or kratom gummies are better options.

Are kratom capsules timed-release?

No. Standard gelatin capsules aren’t timed-release. They begin breaking open within minutes of reaching the stomach. Any difference in onset between capsules and tablets is small compared with the one to two hours it takes mitragynine to peak.

Do tablets and capsules last the same amount of time?

Yes, when the leaf and serving size match. Duration depends on the amount of mitragynine and your own metabolism, not the format. See how long kratom lasts for typical ranges.
