Are Kratom Shots Safe and How Often Can You Take Them?

Kratom shots aren’t risk-free, and no kratom product is FDA-approved. The risk depends mostly on three things you can control: how much mitragynine is in the bottle, whether the batch is lab-tested, and what you mix it with. For how often, follow the label. Our shots allow no more than two servings (one full bottle) in 24 hours, and they aren’t meant for daily use. New to the format? Start with what kratom shots do.

Beyond the daily cap, space your shot days out. Regular, frequent use is where tolerance and dependence show up (more on that below). Our general guide on how often you can take kratom covers other formats.

Why kratom shots need more care than powder

Shots are concentrated. One Slingshot serving holds 60 mg of mitragynine, which is roughly what you’d get from 4.6 g of 1.3% kratom powder. A full bottle (120 mg) equals about 9 g of leaf, swallowed in two sips.

Format

Mitragynine per serving

Slingshot shot, 1 serving (half bottle)

60 mg

Traditional Malaysian kratom drink (study average)

79 mg

Super Feels shot, 1 serving

35 mg

5 kratom capsules (2.5 g of 1.3% leaf)

31 mg

That 79 mg figure comes from a 2014 study of 293 regular users in Malaysia. The same study linked heavier daily intake (three or more glasses a day) with higher odds of severe dependence. So a single shot serving sits near a traditional glass of kratom tea, and it’s easy to go past that without noticing. What the research says

  • In a 2026 FDA pilot study, healthy adults took single servings of plain kratom leaf from 1 g to 12 g. No serious adverse events occurred; nausea, vomiting and sleepiness were the most common side effects. The study used leaf capsules, not extract shots, and the authors note results may not apply to other kratom products.
  • In a survey of 2,061 kratom consumers, tolerance was the most commonly reported symptom among those who met criteria for problematic use, and it was associated with using kratom frequently.
  • A 2024 JAMA Network Open study tracking 357 adults found higher use patterns were associated with signs of physical dependence.

The takeaway: occasional, label-limited use of a tested shot is a very different thing from several shots a day.

When to skip kratom shots

  • You’re under 21, pregnant or nursing.
  • You’re drinking alcohol or taking sedatives, opioids or other medications. Talk to your doctor first. Our kratom drinks guide explains why mixing is the bigger risk.
  • You have liver concerns (and for Super Feels, remember that kava carries its own liver cautions).
  • You can still feel your last serving.
  • The bottle has no mitragynine milligrams or batch lab report. Our guide to kratom shots covers lab-tested shots vs the unlabeled bottles you’ll find at gas stations.

How to use kratom shots more responsibly

  1. Read the milligrams, not the flavor. Know how much mitragynine is in one serving.
  2. Start with half a serving if you’re new to shots, and wait at least 30 minutes. Here’s how long kratom takes to kick in.
  3. Stay under the label limit for 24 hours, even if the first serving feels light.
  4. Keep shots off most days of the week to avoid building tolerance.
  5. Scan the QR code on the bottle to check that batch’s lab results. Here’s how our batch lookup works.

Kratom shots FAQ

Can you take a kratom shot every day?

It isn’t recommended. Research links frequent kratom use with tolerance and dependence, and shots are the most concentrated format. Stay within the label limit of two servings in 24 hours, and give yourself regular days off.

How long does a kratom shot last?

People commonly report effects lasting a few hours, depending on the serving and the person. Mitragynine stays in the body much longer than you’ll feel it (one pharmacokinetic study measured an average half-life of about 23 hours), which is one reason labels cap servings per day. See how long kratom lasts.

Are kratom shots stronger than capsules?

Usually, yes. One Slingshot serving has 60 mg of mitragynine, nearly double the 31 mg in a five-capsule serving of our Maeng Da capsules. Shots also go down in seconds, so it’s easier to take more than you meant to.

How many grams of kratom are in a kratom shot?

Shots use extract, so there’s no powder inside. By mitragynine content, one 60 mg Slingshot serving roughly equals 4.6 g of 1.3% kratom powder, and a full 120 mg bottle equals about 9 g.

What happens if you take too many kratom shots?

Taking more than the label allows raises the odds of side effects such as nausea, vomiting, dizziness and sleepiness, and the risk climbs when kratom is combined with alcohol or other substances. If someone has trouble breathing or won’t wake up, call 911.
